Pastor Steve Johnson - Lead Pastor
God is Good, Gracious, and Guiding.
I graduated College with a degree in Sociology thinking I would be a Probation Officer or an Urban Planner. My call to full-time vocational ministry unfolded over several years. This journey started with an internship with Cook County’s Juvenile Intensive Probation Department, followed by a Youth Ministry internship at a local church, and was confirmed as I entered Seminary. I graduated North Park Theological Seminary in 1996 with a Master’s of Divinity. In June of 1998 I was Ordained to Word and Sacrament in The Evangelical Covenant Church. I worked 6 summers at Mission Meadows Camp, volunteered at South Chicago Covenant Church, and served 2 years as a youth ministry intern in Rocklin, California. I pastored for 16 years in Lindsborg, Kansas, moving to Mason City in April, 2012. I have served on several Conference and Denominational committees and boards, including five years as a member of the Covenant’s Board of the Ordered Ministry. |
Terry and I were married in 1991 and we have 5 children: Tommy (married to Sophie), Maggie, Derek, David, and Michael. We also enjoy our cavashon dog named Zuko.
I want to live a principled and measured life in Christ, appropriating God’s grace so I can grow to be the man of God that He desires for me to be. I love to see people find Jesus and mature in him, even if it takes a long time. I play the guitar, root for the Cleveland Browns, and aspire to be a handyman. I also enjoy snowboarding, boating, reading, current events, and hot sunny days! |
