Senior Pastor Steve Johnson
God is Good, Gracious, and Guiding.
I graduated College with a degree in Sociology thinking I would be a Probation Officer or an Urban Planner. My call to full-time vocational ministry unfolded over several years. This journey started with an internship with Cook County’s Juvenile Intensive Probation Department, followed by a Youth Ministry internship at a local church, and was confirmed as I entered Seminary. I graduated North Park Theological Seminary in 1996 with a Master’s of Divinity. In June of 1998 I was Ordained to Word and Sacrament in The Evangelical Covenant Church.
I worked 6 summers at Mission Meadows Camp, volunteered at South Chicago Covenant Church, and served 2 years as a youth ministry intern in Rocklin, California. I pastored for 16 years in Lindsborg, Kansas, moving to Mason City in April, 2012. I have served on several Conference and Denominational committees and boards, including five years as a member of the Covenant’s Board of the Ordered Ministry.
Terry and I were married in 1991 and we have 5 children: Tommy (married to Sophie), Maggie, Derek, David, and Michael. We also enjoy our cavashon dog named Zuko.
I want to live a principled and measured life in Christ, appropriating God’s grace so I can grow to be the man of God that He desires for me to be. I love to see people find Jesus and mature in him, even if it takes a long time.
I play the guitar, root for the Cleveland Browns, and aspire to be a handyman. I also enjoy snowboarding, boating, reading, current events, and hot sunny days! Email Pastor Steve
Associate Pastor Greg Reiner
When I was in high school at a youth conference I felt the first inkling of God’s calling in my life to be a pastor. Through time interning at my home church as a senior in high school, getting my undergraduate degree in Biblical and Theological Studies and doing a couple of youth ministry internships after college this was confirmed to me. In 2010 my wife Stefanie and I got married and we ventured off to seminary at North Park University in Chicago. I graduated with my Master’s of Divinity degree in 2013 and then Stefanie and I moved to Mason City as I began to serve as the Associate Pastor at First Covenant Church.
In my personal life I am an avid sports fan, cheering for all Seattle sports teams, and love to play board games. My wife and I have one lovely child. I love serving God through all that I do and cherish my role in working to bring God and the Bible into the lives of today’s students. Email Pastor Greg
Director of Children and Family Ministries Stefanie Reiner
I have enjoyed working with and assisting different ministries since a young age. Whether it was helping in the church nursery, running hurricane recovery camps, or working with middle and high schoolers in various capacities you can say I may have a passion for helping others.
These various service opportunities brought this Michigander out of the great mitten state, around the country, and to the corn utopia of Iowa in 2013 where I love partnering with First Covenant Church in ministry together. This position fills my desire of working closely with others to bring people one step closer to knowing God.
Along this journey I met my husband Greg while in college and we got married in 2010. We now have one spunky daughter and a delightful dog. I enjoy all things music, am a pro at getting my daughter to laugh by being a goofball, strive to beat my husband at board games, and love being outside (even if it’s walking my dog in the -20 degree temperatures that Northern Iowa has to offer).
