Who We Are
What makes First Covenant Church unique is that we are a place where you can ask questions, be completely honest about your doubts and struggles, and find acceptance regardless of where you are in your own personal exploration of faith; everyone is welcome.
We are a church committed to Growing Together. We acknowledge that none of us have arrived at a destination and we can experience joy as we travel together with others on the same journey. We strive to build relationships where we can be honest and supportive. We encourage and help one another when times are difficult and celebrate with each other when times are good. We have many small groups, ministry teams, and other community oriented activities that provide the place for us to connect. These are places we can worship, serve, study, pray, discuss, and have fun together. First Covenant is a place where you can come as you are and grow together.
We are committed to growing Deeper In Christ and helping everyone we can to experience the free, joyful, purpose-filled life God created us for. We believe that worship stretches far beyond what happens on Sunday morning; that all of life is an opportunity to worship – in our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, wherever we are. On Sunday mornings we gather not to worship once a week, but to participate in worship together as the culmination of a life of worship lived out all week long. Together we celebrate the unconditional acceptance and overflowing love that God invites us to enjoy in relationship with Jesus Christ.
We are constantly Expanding Our Witness, hoping to share the love of God with people near and far. We support missions of compassion, mercy and justice around the world. We strive to reveal Christ’s light in this local community by reaching out with acts of compassion and kindness and sharing God’s love in word and deed. We enjoy working together and being part of God’s plan to bring healing to those who hurt and hope to those who are trying to make sense of life.
First Covenant Church is a part of the greater Evangelical Covenant Church, the denomination to which we belong. The Evangelical Covenant Church has its roots in historical Christianity as it emerged in the Protestant Reformation, in the biblical instruction of the Lutheran Church of Sweden, and in the great spiritual awakenings of the nineteenth century. “Appreciating this classical Christian heritage and hungering for an even more vital experience of new life in Christ, Covenanters affirm a number of evangelical emphases.”
